Automotive trends and stats from The Geneva International Motor Show

Touchscreens, the integration of technology and eco-friendly vehicles are just some of the automotive trends to be highlighted during the 84th Geneva International Motor Show, taking place 6th – 16th March 2014. During the annual event, car manufacturers and technology giants are to reveal their latest collections, while around 700,000 visitors and 10,000 media representatives will be present for these announcements.

Touchscreens and technology: A dominant trend

Apple’s CarPlay is positioning itself as the infotainment partner of choice, partnering up with the likes of Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari to allow drivers to make calls, access messages, listen to music or access maps using Siri-based voice control. Another nod towards touchscreen integration is Volvo’s prototype estate, which replaces traditional dashboard knobs with a tablet that controls various elements including sound system and ventilation.

A focus on eco-friendly and green driving

Small electric vehicles will be exhibited on a test track for journalists and the public to see, where they can learn more about and test the likes of eco-friendly models from the likes of Renault and BMW. One vehicle in particular is the carbon-fibre, fuel cell-powered Hyundai Intrado which is part of the brand’s mission to increase safety while being environmentally friendly and a greener way of city driving.
